PE pipe fittings are accessories used for connection, diversion, and diversion in polyethylene (Polyethylene) pipe systems. They are widely used in municipal water supply and drainage, gas transportation, agricultural irrigation, industrial fluid transportation and other scenarios. Due to the good corrosion resistance, toughness and hot-melt connection of PE materials, PE pipe fittings have become the mainstream accessories in modern pipeline engineering.
1. Common classification of PE pipe fittings
According to different connection methods, PE pipe fittings are mainly divided into the following categories:
1. Butt Fusion Fittings
The end faces of the pipe and the pipe fitting are heated and melted by hot-melt equipment, and a seamless connection is formed after cooling. Applicable to medium and large diameter PE pipe systems.
Advantages: Firm interface, good sealing, and high strength;
Application: Systems with high pressure requirements such as municipal water supply and industrial pipelines.
2. Electrofusion Fittings
Embedded electric heating wire, heated by electric melting machine, so that the pipe and the pipe fitting are welded. Applicable to installation spaces with small or irregular spaces.
Advantages: Simple operation, suitable for maintenance and complex construction environments;
Applications: Gas transmission system, underground pipe network repair, etc.
3. Flange Fittings
Connected with flange and bolts, suitable for occasions that require frequent disassembly or docking with other material pipes.
Advantages: Removable, suitable for connection with metal pipes or equipment;
Applications: Water plants, pump rooms, equipment inlet and outlet pipes, etc.
4. Socket Fusion Fittings
After heating the pipe and the pipe fitting socket, insert and dock to form a firm connection, mainly suitable for small-diameter systems.
Advantages: Convenient operation, suitable for small-diameter systems;
Applications: Agricultural irrigation, water supply and drainage of small buildings, etc.

PE pipe fittings connection methods and advantages and disadvantages
1. Hot-melt butt connection
Features: suitable for medium and large diameter PE pipes
Advantages: firm interface, good sealing, not easy to leak
Disadvantages: high requirements for operation technology during construction
2. Electric fusion connection
Features: built-in electric heating wire, electric fusion
Advantages: suitable for small spaces or maintenance scenes, convenient construction
Disadvantages: high cost, special equipment required
3. Flange connection
Features: connected by flange and bolts
Advantages: removable, convenient maintenance or connection with metal pipes
Disadvantages: sealing performance is not as good as hot-melt and electric-melt, and sealing gaskets need to be checked regularly
4. Socket connection
Features: insert the pipe after heating the pipe fitting socket
Advantages: suitable for small-diameter pipes, convenient construction
Disadvantages: The connection strength and sealing performance are not as good as hot-melt butt joint
Differences between PE water supply fittings and PE gas fittings
1. Implementation standards
PE water supply fittings: Implementation standard is GB/T 13663
PE gas fittings: Implementation standard is GB 15558.2
2. Fitting color
PE water supply fittings: Usually black with blue identification strip
PE gas fittings: Usually black with yellow identification strip
3. Pressure level
PE water supply fittings: Common pressure level is 0.6MPa to 1.6MPa
PE gas fittings: Pressure level is usually higher, and the sealing requirements are more stringent, usually 0.8MPa to 1.6MPa
4. Safety performance
PE water supply fittings: Meet the requirements of conventional use
PE gas fittings: Must meet higher safety standards, usually require electric fusion connection to prevent gas leakage
What is a Poly Pipe Elbow?
A poly pipe elbow is a type of pipe fitting used in polyethylene piping systems to change the direction of water or gas flow. These elbows are typically available in 90-degree or 45-degree angles and are essential for laying out irrigation, water supply, or gas pipelines in a compact and flexible way.
Common Features
Material: HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene)
Types
Electrofusion elbow – used with electrofusion welding machines
Butt fusion elbow – joined by heat fusion welding
Compression elbow – no welding needed; joined via threaded caps
Sizes: Available in various diameters (e.g., 20mm to 630mm or more)
Pressure Rating: Typically from PN6 to PN16
Color: Usually black, sometimes with blue or yellow stripes (blue for water, yellow for gas)
Applications
Agricultural irrigation systems
Potable water distribution
Underground gas pipeline networks
Industrial piping systems
Drainage and wastewater systems
Advantages
Corrosion-resistant and chemical-resistant
Long service life (over 50 years under normal conditions)
Easy to install and maintain
Excellent flexibility and toughness
Leak-proof connections when properly fused
