How to choose PE pipe fittings that meet international standards?
With the continuous development of global infrastructure construction, PE (polyethylene) pipe fittings are widely used in water supply, gas, sewage, agricultural irrigation and other fields due to their corrosion resistance, high pressure resistance and long service life. However, different countries and regions have different technical standards and certification requirements for PE pipe fittings. In international trade, it is crucial to understand these standards and certifications, which can help companies improve product competitiveness and successfully enter the target market.

1. Standards for PE pipe fittings in different countries (ISO, EN, ASTM, GB, etc.)

The standards for PE pipe fittings in various countries and regions mainly involve size, pressure level, material properties, connection method and test method. The following are the main global PE pipe fittings standards:

(1) ISO standard (international standard)

ISO 4427: Applicable to PE pipe systems for water supply, including pipes, fittings and connection requirements.

ISO 4437: Standard for PE pipe systems for gas transmission.

ISO 21307: Standard for welding methods of PE pipes, including single-layer welding and multi-layer welding technology.

(2) EN Standards (European Standards)

EN 12201: Standard for PE pipe fittings for water supply and drainage systems, which specifies the specifications, mechanical properties and testing requirements of pipe fittings.

EN 1555: Standard for PE pipes for gas transmission, covering material requirements, connection methods and long-term pressure resistance.

(3) ASTM Standards (American Standards)

ASTM D3035: PE pipes suitable for pressure transmission, including water transmission and industrial applications.

ASTM F714: Standard for large diameter PE pressure pipes.

ASTM F1055: Standard for electric fusion connection of PE pipes.

(4) GB Standards (Chinese National Standards)

GB/T 13663: Standard for PE pipes and fittings for water supply.

GB/T 15558: Standard for PE pipes and fittings for gas transmission.

GB/T 20674: Standard for PE pipes and fittings for mining.

Different markets have different requirements for product standards. Therefore, export companies need to produce PE pipe fittings that meet the corresponding standards according to the requirements of the target market.

2. How to choose PE pipe fittings that meet international standards?

(1) Clarify the standard requirements of the target market

Before exporting, you need to understand the PE pipe fitting standards applicable to the target market. For example:

Exporting to Europe must comply with EN 12201 (water supply) or EN 1555 (gas) standards.

Exporting to the United States must comply with ASTM D3035 or ASTM F714 standards.

Exporting to the Middle East or Southeast Asia generally refers to ISO 4427 and GB/T 13663.

(2) Ensure that the pipe fittings meet the pressure and material requirements

Different standards have different requirements for the pressure level (PN value) and material level (PE80, PE100) of PE pipe fittings. For example:

Water supply pipes generally use PE100 or PE80 materials, and the pressure resistance grades PN10 and PN16 are more common.

Gas pipelines require higher safety and usually use PE100 grade, with a pressure resistance standard of PN6 or PN10.

(3) Ensure that welding and connection methods meet standards

The connection methods of PE pipe fittings include hot-melt socket, electric fusion connection, flange connection, etc. National standards have different testing requirements for different connection methods. For example, ASTM F1055 stipulates the performance test method of PE electric fusion pipe fittings, while ISO 21307 standardizes the welding requirements of PE pipeline systems.

(4) Obtain testing and certification from authoritative organizations

Enterprises need to pass third-party testing organizations such as SGS, TÜV, BV (Bureau Veritas), Intertek, etc. to ensure that their products meet international standards.

3. Sanitary certification of PE pipe fittings (NSF, WRAS, etc.)

PE pipe fittings are mainly used in drinking water, gas, sewage treatment and other fields. Among them, water supply pipe fittings need to meet strict hygiene standards to ensure that there is no pollution to the water quality. The following are the main PE pipe fittings sanitary certifications in the world:

(1) NSF certification (USA)

NSF/ANSI 61: Safety certification for water supply system materials to ensure that pipe fittings will not pollute drinking water.

NSF/ANSI 14: Quality certification for plastic pipe systems, covering raw materials, manufacturing processes, etc.

Scope of application: Mainly applicable to the North American market, such as the United States and Canada.

(2) WRAS certification (UK)

WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) certification is the UK drinking water safety standard to ensure that water supply system materials will not pollute water sources.

Scope of application: Applicable to the UK and some European countries. PE pipe fittings that meet the EN 12201 standard can apply for WRAS certification.

(3) DVGW certification (Germany)

Issued by the German Gas and Water Supply Association (DVGW), mainly for PE pipe fittings in gas and water supply systems.

Scope of application: Germany and some European markets, products that meet EN 12201 and EN 1555 standards can apply for DVGW certification.

(4) ACS certification (France)

ACS (Attestation de Conformité Sanitaire) is a French health safety certification that ensures that PE pipes do not pollute drinking water.

Scope of application: France and some EU countries.

(5) WaterMark certification (Australia)

WaterMark certification is issued by the Australian government and is applicable to plastic pipe products in water supply and drainage systems.

Scope of application: Australian and New Zealand markets.

How to ensure that PE pipe fittings meet international market requirements?

Choose PE pipe fittings that meet the standards of the target market (such as ISO, EN, ASTM, GB, etc.).

Ensure that the material and pressure rating meet the application requirements (PE80/PE100, PN10/PN16).

Ensure that the connection method complies with international standards (hot melt, electric melt, flange connection, etc.).

Apply for authoritative health certification (NSF, WRAS, DVGW, ACS, WaterMark, etc.) to ensure water supply safety.

Pass certification by third-party testing agencies (SGS, TÜV, BV, Intertek) to enhance market competitiveness.
